National Awards Luncheon
A worthwhile commitment
The Institute of Cast Metals Engineers (ICME) rewards individuals each year who the Institute feels have dedicated themselves to the advancement of the industry in terms of what they have achieved personally and in the methods in which they have passed their knowledge on to fellow foundrymen and ICME members.
Opening the formal proceeedings at this year's Awards presentations, National Senior Vice President, Willie Howson, said the recipients were ''well deserving'' because collectively they have ''devoted a lot of their time and their companies' time to the industry and to passing on information to others''.
This commitment to the industry was honoured at the awards ceremony held at the National Motorcycle Museum on Saturday, 6th October, preceded with a lunch and a tour of the museum.
National President, Peter Nix, presented the awards and reminded everyone that the venue was chosen to reflect the nature of the industry, he said: ''There are over 100 makers of motorcycles - all with their own individual characteristics, much the same as the foundry industry.''
All the recipients thanked their companies and their fellow colleagues and ICME members for their support and encouragement over the years and the true theme of the afternoon was friendship and two-way commitment between people and companies.
On receiving his Meritorious Services medal Eric Boultbee said 'I've always believed you get out what you put in', this is highlighted by the award citations that are contained elsewhere on this website (see 2007 Awards) and also in the November issue of FTJ.
Institute membership is a personal thing; you can join relevant ICME committees, attend branch meetings or you can simply read Foundry Trade Journal each month and keep in touch this way. Whichever route is chosen ICME membership reflects a commitment to the industry and a commitment to excellence, regardless of your position in the industry or your nationality.
ICME would like to salute those who value their membership and who commit to the pursuit of excellence and we recognise the friendships members make and the help this can be in driving the industry forward.
