Free courses for ICME members
On-line training facililty added to benefits
ICME has set up its own on-line learning resource which its members can access for free via the ICME website. There is a range of short courses available including topics such as materials, quality management including statistical process control, environmental management and lean management. ICME members will be able to access the courses for free by logging in using their ICME membership number.
The online courses have been designed to be user friendly and support graphics, animation and video to make online self-study easier. They also present various levels of user interaction through exercises and quizzes that learners can use to self-assess their progress. The courses may be followed at the learners at their own pace and sections can be repeated. Many of the courses are presented using a talking heads style, whereby there is video of the course presenter that the learner can listen to and watch with notes in one of four European languages, English, German, Spanish and French.
ICME is making available the courses to the first 30 applicants (at a saving to the individual of £120 per year) although the number of users can be extended if sufficient interest is generated.
Dr Murrell, Operations Director at ICME, said “I hope that our members will take advantage of this resource – our industry has to face increasing global competition and it is only the companies who have a proactive approach to skills and knowledge development that will remain competitive. We recognise that finding training time can be difficult, especially for small companies, and on-line training may offer a viable solution. By investing in this training resource we feel that we are offering a real service that exactly fits with our aim to support the professional development of our members.”
The training modules have been developed by EuroMotor-Autotrain, a company resulting from the merger of two successful, long running European Funded projects, EuroMotor and AutoTrain which were based at Birmingham University. EuroMotor-AutoTrain LLP is primarily a learning technology development company specialising in e-Learning solutions. In 2002, AutoTrain was selected as one of 17 examples of best practice in Europe in workplace e-literacy by the 21st Century Literacy Summit run by the Bertelsmann Foundation in Germany and AOL Time Warner.
The courses can be accessed by ICME members via the members area at www.icme.org.uk/members.asp or via the education and training pages of this website.
