Foundries share H&S Best Practice
Shift initiative at work
Following the success of the quarterly SHIFT health and safety forums, arrangements are now in place for members to take part in reciprocal foundry visits to see first hand how different companies approach health and safety in their respective facilities. It is hoped that the visits, which are arranged on a regional basis, will not only help spread best practice but will also help identify common areas of concern which can be addressed through SHIFT at a national level. The first visit hosted by Precision Disc Castings in Poole, proved to be a successful event, with positive feedback from those involved, and reinforced the view that whether you are an iron, aluminium or diecasting foundry, much benefit can be derived by seeing first hand what procedures are in place to address health and safety in the workplace.
SHIFT, administered by the Cast Metals Federation is now into it’s seventh year, and with more than one hundred foundries signed up to the initiative, provides an excellent conduit for information exchange and a focal point for health and safety issues in the industry.
