Royal Garden Party
Every three years, the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers receives an invitation from the Queen to attend one of the Royal Garden parties. Approximately 8,000 guests attend each garden party representing charities and societies as well as organisations such as the Civil Service, Armed Services and the Diplomatic Corps. This spring, ICME received its invitation and was represented at the Garden Party by the National President at the time, Willie Howson and his wife Janet, and also Past National President Roy Grundy, who was accompanied by the institutes Operations Director, Pam Murrell.
During the Party, guests are able to stroll around the gardens to the rear of Buckingham Palace and take tea to the accompaniment of military bands. The Queen attends along with other members of the Royal family.
Fortunately the weather on the July day was sunny and the ICME representatives were delighted and honoured to be able to attend this once in a lifetime experience.
