Branch Launches Technical Event
Prestigious Programme of Speakers announced
Chesterfield and Sheffield branch invites all members to support their one day event.
Members and guests of the Chesterfield and Sheffield branch of ICME met at the Sheffield Park Hotel in October for their annual President’s Dinner. An encouraging turnout, in spite of the current manufacturing difficulties, was a credit to the efforts of the branch officials and made for a very enjoyable evening during which the new Branch President, Mike Leaney was presented with his badge of office by Simon Alexander, who in turn was presented with his past Presidents badge.
Mike extolled all those in the industry who are not already members to join to further support the Institute and not be complacent about their involvement. He reminded those present that the institute has had some success recently in attracting new members and the more members that the institute has then the more that can be achieved and the easier it is to gain support for its activities.
Branch to host Technical Seminar
He also took the opportunity to invite all ICME members and potential members to attend their forthcoming one-day technical seminar, to be held on the 11th March 2010, which will include 4 lectures by prestigious speakers from the international industry. This is a significant change to the usual branch programme and is intended to attract more members and guests by providing a range of topics during the seminar as well as an opportunity for networking and socialising during the supper to follow the presentations.
Branch Secretary Mick Mowbray presided over the raffle and all were entertained by after dinner speaker, Alfie Moore, the self billed ‘Stand up Police Sergeant’ who draws, with humour, upon his varied experiences during his time with the police force.
The branch were also delighted to be joined by National President, Dr Bill Griffiths, who was also positive about the future of ICME, citing the interest in the new Foundation Degree, with over 15 students now enrolled, as an example of where members collectively, supported through ICME, can have a positive role to play in the wider industry.
