Sad Death of Cyril (Mac) McCombe MBE Prof MICME

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Cyril (Mac) McCombe on the 24th May 2010. He died in his sleep at the Sue Ryder home, Nettlebed, after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the beginning of 2009.

The family wish to thank all of his wonderful friends, who have given them such amazing support over the last year or so. Friendship was very important to him and so many of you kept visiting and he enjoyed seeing you right up until a couple of days before he died this meant so much to him. Thank you.

His funeral is to be held on Wednesday June 2nd 2010, at 2pm, in St. Peter's Church, St. Peter's Hill Caversham, Reading.

Afterwards the family would be delighted if family, friends and colleagues would join them for afternoon tea back at 50, Chazey Road, Caversham, Reading RG4 7DU to celebrate his life. (Please note, there will be a short private cremation after the church service during which drinks will be served at Chazey Road).

If you can, please could you let Claire, his daugher, know if you would like to attend the funeral and tea, so that we can get an idea of numbers? e:clairepoulton@hotmail.com or t: 01869 340335.

There were two organisations that surpassed themselves in the support they gave Cyril whilst he was ill, and they continue to support the family today. The Motor Neurone Disease Association provided numerous aids to help him deal with this terrible disease, and Joanna, the MNDA association visitor became a great friend of Cyril and of the wider family, offering continual support. The Sue Ryder hospice has been amazing and has given both Cyril, his wife and the wider family so much support over the last year. Rather than sending flowers, the family would therefore welcome donations to either of these organisations.

Claire, Ewan and Bryony expressed their thanks to you.
