Tibbenham Award

On the 26th March 2010 we held our AGM when John Capps FICME was elected Section President for 2010/2011.

Following on was our Annual Dinner and presentation of the Tibbenham Award. The dinner was attended by the National President Dr Bill Griffiths along with his partner Dr Artemis Stamboulis. The intention was for the President to present the Tibbenham Award Trophies to the successful entrants. Unfortunately, the trophies, made from cast glass, were still at the works when one was dropped. It shattered and they were unable to provide a replacement in time for the dinner.

After an excellent talk on the future of the Institute an offer was made to Alex Slater of Langley School and Jasmine Donovan of Costessy High School, Norwich to visit the metallurgy department at Birmingham University. I understand that such a visit has been arranged.

After a long wait the presentation finally took place at Thurton Foundries Ltd on Thursday 3rd June. Ian Capps, outgoing Section President, after presenting the Tibbenham Award Trophies, took the opportunity to thank Alex Slater of Langley School, Loddon and Jasmine Donovan of Costessy High School, Norwich for putting in such a great deal of effort to produce the aluminium castings which were then built into their own designed units.
