Cherishing the future - SFEL presentation

ICME’s Pam Murrell was pleased to be a guest recently for the formal opening of the new training suite at Sheffield Forgemasters Engineering Ltd, Sheffield, UK. Steve Tagg, SFEL training manager, was delighted with the new suite, which continues the significant investment in training at the company. “We need to cherish the lifeblood of the company, these new apprentices, whose development represents the future for SFEL. We owe it to our customers who expect us to deliver quality products and we need trained and competent engineers to continue to achieve this.”
Together with the technical library at the works, the refurbishment of what had been very run down rooms into bright, self contained facilities will be a boost to those at the company who are currently undertaking apprenticeships, of which there are around 70 across the various departments according to Sharon Ward, HR director at SFEL..
Denis Healy from IMechE was also present to recognise the fact that the SFEL apprentice scheme for those in the mechanical engineering and forging divisions of the company had been approved by IMechE as meeting the standard of competence and commitment for Engineering Technician grade on the Engineering Council’s register of professional engineers.
Pam was delighted to be able to present certificates to John Sanderson, Geoffrey Spriggs and Guy Pedley who have all recently achieved the status of professional engineers at the grade of Eng Tech with ICME and who are also all Professional Members of the institute. Pam also presented a certificate to Steve Tagg listing the 16 employees who are now members of ICME. Three current apprentices, Alex Pressland, James Lunn and Harry Gill were also signed up into membership for free as part of ICME’s apprentice member programme.
