Tuesday, 10th October 2006.
Dave Holden of Carbon International and Sandy Brown of James Durrans came well prepared with a host of visual products and placards.
Sandy Brown explained the intricacies of the James Durran organisation and how they are expanding overseas.
Dave Holden explained the wide range of uses of their carbon products and the fact that there is no carbon wastage, even the dust is usuable.
He gave examples of some of the various applications of carbon products; recarburisers, refractories, greensand system carbonaceous additives, lubricants, brake linings, pencils and dry cell batteries.
Tuesday, 14th November 2006 - Advances in the melting of High Quality Grey Iron. Malcolm Macnaughtan of PDC and Eurac Ltd
Malcolm provided members with an illustrated talk relating to the approach that PDC has made in order to provide the motor car industry with quality castings at the right price.
He delved into the control of metallurgical quality, the use of thermal analysis, the effect of microstructure on the properties of the grey cast iron and the problems of replacing pig iron in the basic charge.
Tuesday, 13th March 2007 - "Russell's Tips" by Russell Howe of Ashland Casting Solutions.
Russell, prior to his retirement, 14 days after presenting this talk, has spent some 40 years in the industry and through his knowledge so gained put it together in the form of a talk. Mainly related to sand and core mixes and the ways and where fores for the correct methods of making additions to sand/core mixing machinery in order to obtain the most suitable properties of the hardened mixes.
Friday, 20th April 2007 - AGM and Awards Dinner.
Following the AGM members joined forces with their visitors to enjoy a well prepared dinner. This was followed by the awards and certificates to this years' winners of the Frank Tibbenham Award which was presented by Guy Schofield, Section President.
