It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Bob Brown FICME BSc CEng MIRefE.
Born and educated in Motherwell, Scotland, Bob attended Dalziel High School before earning a B.Sc. degree with Honours in Metallurgy from the University of Strathclyde. Bob began his career as a metallurgical chemist at Fullwood Foundry, then part of British Steel. Upon graduating, he advanced to roles of increasing responsibility, including Senior Metallurgist at North British Steel Group, Technical Sales Representative for Foseco, Chief Metallurgist, UK Sales Manager for Thor Ceramics, and eventually General Manager of Foseco’s Carbon Bonded Ceramics business in Bonnybridge. His leadership and expertise culminated in his appointment as Chief Executive of Foseco (F.S.) Ltd.
Throughout his career, Bob was known for his technical acumen, publishing several influential papers, including one on “Molten Metal Transfer Technology,” for which he was awarded a Diploma by the Institute. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute, he joined the IBF in 1970 and remained a dedicated member for 53 years. He served as Scottish Branch President in 1985 and National President in 2005.
In recognition of his Contributions, Bob received the Meritorious Services Award in 2012, as well as Silver and Gold Pins for his long service in Membership. He was also a proud member of the Institute of Refractories Engineers.
We offer our condolences to his family.
May he rest in peace.
