I am extremely proud and honoured to have been elected president of the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers. I look forward to working with the national officers, trustees, head office staff and members to ensure the institute continues to deliver the high standard of service our members have been accustomed to receiving.

Our industry has made many technical and social advancements over the years, which has changed the way we live, and continues to affect us in everything we do. We must not become complacent but look to the future, we must acknowledge the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

As I am handed the reins of the institute and have the chain of office placed upon my shoulders I was asked “do you have an agenda for the coming year?”

Thinking about this:

I have always been aware that we as an industry have been taken for granted for far more years than I can remember. We will always be there and perform to the very best of our abilities, as we always do. There is not another trade that has to juggle so many balls before the end product is ready for the customer. Our trade is not currently recognised for the contribution we make to bettering society.

I hope to raise public awareness of our industry and focus on our positive contribution to society and continue with the skills development program to attract the foundrymen and women of tomorrow.

Also, to aim for better communications and joint developments between foundries and encourage more international cooperation.

I am very fortunate to be taking this office at a time when the institute has been in such good hands.

The previous Presidents have put in place excellent programs for developing the institute. We will continue moving this forward.  Following on from Anthony Evans, Martin Dudley and looking forward to Simon Alexander and Pam Murrell taking office in due course, the institute is in good hands.

We look forward to the future and continuing consolidating our current path.
