ICME West Midlands Technical Lecture- Back to Basics and Forward into the Future by Laempe+Sims Limited

On Monday 6th September, the West Midlands Branch, and a total of 41 attendees, 17 from across the UK and the world by the internet and 24 physically at the Churchill’s venue in Wednesbury were, yet again treated to a well presented, interesting and professional technical lecture / webinar delivered by the branch.   It was a great honour that Rudolf Wintgens the Managing Director of Technologies of Laempe Mossner Sinto a world class company in the field of core making was able to join us in Wednesbury. The talk ‘Back to Basics Forward to the Future’ demonstrated deep levels of practical experience and knowledge and was clearly explained. Rudolf explained the difference between core blowing and shooting and that the shoot times should be minimised to achieve times of around 0.5 s and he recommending venting / tooling optimisation to reduce the overblowing conditions (over 2s) often encountered in many foundry processes, advising also that amine consumption should also be 1g per 1kg of mixed sand

The talk included an informative comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the Core Shooting and 3D printing with some surprising outcomes in terms of the Carbon dioxide evolution, i.e.. higher in the latter and talked of the future development of European core shops producing cores up to 2,500 kg an example he showed where he was able to blow the full core first time

Again, the level of interest for this technical lecture was again clearly shown in the extent of the Q and A session at the end of the lecture and Rudolf showed his depth of expertise in this field with some well informed answers at the end of the talk, the attendees, also thanked him in our usual way with a round of applause.
