Last week Sam Edwards and the team at The Boro’ Foundry Ltd hosted a visit for a group of 20 Year 9 pupils from a local school. This was part of our Future Foundry Project which is looking to promote the industry to school children and excite them about what we make and how we make it, as well as the important role of the casting and foundry industry in recycling of metals.
The pupils were able to see some of wide range of products that the foundry produces in carbon and stainless steel, as well as grey and SG cast iron, plus CNC milling and machining of castings, as part of the UK Manufacturing Supply Chain.
We have been working Adam Tipper and the team at Next Gen Makers, together with the Cast Metals Federation, and with the financial support of the Foundry Training Trust, on this project to showcase the industry using a ‘Virtual Foundry Tour’ – but it’s much better to see the real thing!
