Skills Champion, Martin Dudley FICME, becomes New President of the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers

Martin Dudley FICME, Chief Executive of Thomas Dudley Ltd, was approved as the new ICME National President at the recent AGM for the UK Charity.

In accepting the presidency of the Charity, Martin said, “As someone who is passionate about improving the skills, opportunities and welfare of employees both nationally as well as in the West Midlands where my own companies are based, I am delighted to become President at this time.  The Institute has a long and proud history of supporting and enabling the professional development of individuals in the metal casting sector, and its arguable that this has never been more important for UK manufacturing.  We have a clear need for skills development and the fact that ICME is now offering range of technical short courses, as well as an accredited EAL Diploma for technicians, sector specific leadership & management courses, as well as End-point Assessment of apprentices for employers in our sector is important, and something I am keen to build on during my year of office.

“With my fellow Trustees, I would also like to try to reverse the downward trajectory in ICME membership and help to ensure that the Institute is seen as relevant to today’s and tomorrow’s industry by building a community of industry professionals to support the future talent pipeline.  Our industry is important as a foundation to much of the rest of UK manufacturing, supplying vital components here in the UK, as well being a key part of the circular economy of metals in the UK.  Through ICME I want to help ensure that the industry can have a strong future, and for that it needs skilled people.”

During the event Martin was able to present the Past National President Medal to Robert Bell EngTech FICME, who said, “It has been a huge honour for me to be President of ICME.  I was not able to meet with as many members as I would have liked during the past 12 months, but I would like to wish Martin and my fellow trustees well as they take up the mantle and continue the proud heritage of the Institute for our industry.”
