On Monday 22nd September, the West Midlands Branch hosted a well presented, interesting and professional technical lecture / webinar on ‘The Application of Refractory Coatings’ which was kindly presented by Paul Siddy from James Durrans Limited, who also kindly sponsored the buffet.
The event attracted 30 attendees with 13 listening in from across the UK and the world via the internet and 17 attending in person at the Churchill’s venue in Wednesbury. The talk demonstrated Paul’s deep levels of practical experience and knowledge and was very clearly explained.
Paul began by explaining the advantages of the differing options of coatings for different casting systems, the different methods of coating application and the controls that need to be employed on these systems to maintain good results. He shrewdly explained that in non-shell sand applications there will always be a future for coatings because they can deliver a technically clever additional control in the surface area of foundry moulds in a cost-effective way
Once again, the level of interest for this technical lecture was clearly shown in the extent of the Q and A session at the end of the lecture and Paul showed his depth of expertise in this field with some well-informed answers.
All the attendees also thanked him in the usual way with a round of applause before enjoying the buffet and some convivial conversations with fellow ICME Members.
