On Monday 4th December, the West Midlands Branch, and a total of 54 attendees, 17 from across the UK and the world by the internet and 37 physically at the Churchill’s venue in Wednesbury were treated to a well-presented, interesting and professional technical lecture / webinar delivered by the branch.   The talk demonstrated deep levels of practical experience and knowledge and was very expertly explained.

The lecture, ‘Innovations in Foundry Processes, from Melting to Grinding’, was kindly presented by Mr Nicola Segreto, General Manager of Proservice and supported by Toni Carannante Director of TE-TEC.

The talk explained the advantages of aligning the production variables of manufacturing with the charging and dosing stages. These dynamic processes can be tuned by improved control of the charging and trimming processes including inoculation and magnesium treatments. Nicola also covered robot improved coating tank controls and applications.

Once again, the level of interest for this technical lecture was clearly shown in the extent of the Q & A session and Nicola showed his depth of expertise in this field with some well-informed comments at the end of the talk outlining his vision of the future developments, including increased efficiency of robotic grinding operations and improved thermo-mechanical reclaim systems.  The attendees thanked the speakers in the usual way with a round of applause.

Also on the night, prior to the technical talk, Trevor Ayre FICME (the current Branch President) presented some West Midlands, Birmingham and Coventry Branch Past President Pins.
