The West Midlands, Birmingham and Coventry Branch of the ICME hosted a lecture  in April from Matt Robbins of Power Capacitors Ltd. With almost 40 attendees, including several joining on-line, Matt presented his talk entitled ‘Optimise Power, Quality Optimise Production’.

Power Capacitors Ltd is a supplier of electrical expertise and power quality solutions and as the casting industry is an intensive user of electricity it is increasingly important to understand the losses in our processing (reactive power VAR) and to be able to mitigate these.  During his presentation Matt was able to share his knowledge and experience in the field of electrical power monitoring and control, explaining the set up of the power delivery, power factors and harmonics, and showed an example of an Arc furnace project that his company had worked on. Matt’s experience means that he can help companies with power monitoring and capacitor-based solutions.

There was a lively Q & A at the end of the talk and delegates were able to learn from Matt’s knowledge before enjoying a hot buffet kindly sponsored by Power Capacitors Ltd.
