Scottish Branch Technical Meeting January 2019.

The Scottish Branch held their first technical meeting of 2019 on Wednesday 23rd  January at the Moorings Hotel in Motherwell and were welcomed to the meeting by Branch President Robert Bell FICME.

The speaker for the first meeting of the new year was Andrew Laing of Charles Laing & Sons, Edinburgh.

Andrew is a long standing member of the Scottish Branch and although many know his company and have some idea about what the company does, the members certainly had their eyes opened to the amazing restoration work that Andrew’s team carry out worldwide, from bandstands in Edinburgh to bandstands in Hamilton, Bermuda and stair cases in Fortnum and Mason’s in London.

Andrew explained the challenges and preparation work required to complete some of the projects they have taken on over the years, since his grandfather started the business. He also described how, after 97 years at their current address in Edinburgh, they moved to new premises and described the challenges that they had to overcome on the next chapter of their journey.

The paper was well received by the members as was as evident from the lengthy question and answer session which followed.

The night was then brought to a close with a vote of thanks to Andrew for an excellent presentation, by the Branch President.
